On the eve of Christmas Eve

  As I traveled through the busy streets of town, the main thoroughfare being heavily congested I began to reflect.  It is Christmas time, and what do we do?  We run out and spend hundreds, even thousands of dollars to buy "STUFF" for family and friends.  Why?  

  We buy and buy and buy and try to even out for each grandchild, child, and married children and their spouse.  We purchase what WE THINK they will like, and where will it all be in a week, two weeks, a  month?

  Have we, Christians, really forgotten the real meaning of Christmas?  Oh, we will make excuses of how we need to get family and friends 'STUFF' and it is usually to make us feel better.

   Did you know there are countries where they receive only 1, yes ONE GIFT?

To me, in my opinion, it would be nice to do a college fund instead of spending hundreds on each person. Grown children, find 1 item they really "want" (since it is Christmas) and family go together to purchase that 1 substantial item.

   Oh, yes, little toys, trinkets, gifts cards, items that are great today and gone tomorrow.  What about Jesus?

   If you do feel you have to spend and spend and spend, then please don't forget Jesus when it comes time to have the day of celebration.  Thank you for reading my rant and rave.  Love you all.  John 3:16-17

The wise men or Magi or kings

Good morning all. God is good all the time, all the time God is good.  TOO BLESSED TO BE STRESSED!

   Just a quick commentary today.  First about the wise men, Magi, or kings.  There were thought to come on camels, however, research shows they were most likely from Persia and came on horses. Hmmm!

   Next, the star they saw was probably since these people tended to be astrologers they noticed something different, and of course, were God led.

  The gifts they "just happen to bring" were valuable and able to help sustain Mary and Joseph while they were in Egypt.

  Oh, by the way, the Bible says Magi came, they had 3 gifts, but that does not tell us how many.  Since there were 3 gifts the traditional song says, "We Three Kings of Orient".  This is not necessarily true.

  And to many this is a coincidence, however, you learned children of God know that there are only Godcidence (devine meetings).  It is all quite interesting and I would challenge you to dig into this and see what you find.

  Matthew 2:  After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi from the east came to Jerusalem 2 and asked, “Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.”

9 After they had heard the king, they went on their way, and the star they had seen when it rose went ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the child was. 10 When they saw the star, they were overjoyed. 11 On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh.12 And having been warned in a dream not to go back to Herod, they returned to their country by another route.

Baby Jesus, toddler Jesus and flight to Egypt

Good morning all. God is good all the time, all the time God is good. TOO BLESSED TO COMPLAIN!!!

  Luke tells us Jesus grew physically and was with wisdom from God. Luke 2:39 When Joseph and Mary had done everything required by the Law of the Lord, they returned to Galilee to their own town of Nazareth. 40 And the child grew and became strong; he was filled with wisdom, and the grace of God was on him.

  

  Below is Matthew 2, a short read dealing with the Magi and the flight to Egypt.

The Magi Visit the Messiah

2 After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi[a] from the east came to Jerusalem2 and asked, “Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.”

3 When King Herod heard this he was disturbed, and all Jerusalem with him. 4 When he had called together all the people’s chief priests and teachers of the law, he asked them where the Messiah was to be born. 5 “In Bethlehem in Judea,” they replied, “for this is what the prophet has written:

6 “‘But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah,

The Escape to Egypt

13 When they had gone, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream. “Get up,” he said, “take the child and his mother and escape to Egypt. Stay there until I tell you, for Herod is going to search for the child to kill him.”

14 So he got up, took the child and his mother during the night and left for Egypt, 15 where he stayed until the death of Herod. And so was fulfilled what the Lord had said through the prophet: “Out of Egypt I called my son."

16 When Herod realized that he had been outwitted by the Magi, he was furious, and he gave orders to kill all the boys in Bethlehem and its vicinity who were two years old and under, in accordance with the time he had learned from the Magi. 17 Then what was said through the prophet Jeremiah was fulfilled:

18 “A voice is heard in Ramah,
    weeping and great mourning,
Rachel weeping for her children
    and refusing to be comforted,
    because they are no more.”

Who is Anna the prophetess? (gathered from varous sources)

Good morning fellow Christians!  What a glorious day to sing hallelujah and thank Jesus for being our saviour.  God is good all the time, all the time God is good.

  If you don't watch CBN, Pat Robertson, he is real and tells "TRUE NEWS", not fake news.  For people who don't believe in Jesus or doubt miracles are alive today need to watch this video from CBN, The Christmas Miracle.

  Okay, back to Luke. Who is Anna?  Luke : “And there was a prophetess, Anna” (Luke 2:36, ESV). Anna is among only a handful of women in the Bible bearing the title “prophetess.” The others are Miriam, the sister of Moses (Exodus 15:20); Deborah, the judge (Judges 4:4); Huldah, the wife of Shallum (2 Chronicles 34:22); Isaiah’s wife (Isaiah 8:3); and Philip’s four unmarried daughters (Acts21:9).

  “She was very old; she had lived with her husband seven years after her marriage, and then was a widow until she was eighty-four” (Luke 2:36–37). Anna had been married only seven years when she became a widow, and she remained a widow for the rest of her life. Most translations indicate that Anna was eighty-four years old when she met Jesus. But it is also possible to translate the text to mean Anna had lived eighty-four years after her husband died. That would mean Anna was at least 105 years old—if she had married at the age of fourteen.

  “She never left the temple but worshiped night and day, fasting and praying” (Luke 2:37). After becoming a widow, Anna dedicated herself wholly to the Lord. She never left the temple in Jerusalem but spent her time worshipping, fasting, and praying. It is possible that Anna was given living quarters at the temple because of her designation as prophetess. What stands out is that her devotion was constant for the majority of her life, and her devotion was rewarded with an encounter with her Savior. 

  “Coming up to them at that very moment” (Luke 2:38). Mary and Joseph arrive at the temple with the baby Jesus to satisfy the Old Testament law. They needed to make the purification offering (see Leviticus 12:6–8) and to present Jesus as their firstborn before God (see Exodus 13:2, 12–15).

   “She gave thanks to God and spoke about the child to all who were looking forward to the redemption of Jerusalem” (Luke 2:38). Anna the prophetess is among the first few to bring honor to the kingly babe born in a stable. Good news is meant to be shared, and Anna shares it with everyone who was anticipating the Messiah. The Redeemer had come, the prophecies were being fulfilled, and Anna was blessed to see it happen.

   This information was gathered from several sources and brought together as a summary here.  Several sources were compared and the result was the same about Anna.  I do hope you enjoyed learning about the circumcision, the purification, and the dedication.  As a side note, when a boy child was born the parents had to sacrifice a lamb, or 2 pigeons, or 2 turtle doves.

Luke 2:24-32 Circumcision and purification of Jesus and Mary

Good morning, for all is well in the Lord Jesus Christ. God is good all the time, all the time God is good.

  Continuing on with Luke 2 we come to the circumcision of Jesus, Mary and Joseph took the infant Jesus to the Temple in Jerusalem forty days (inclusive) after his birth to complete Mary's ritual purification after childbirth, and to perform the redemption of the firstborn son, in obedience to the Torah. 

    Here are the scriptures:  Luke 2: 21 And when eight days were accomplished for the circumcising of the child, his name was called Jesus, which was so named of the angel before he was conceived in the womb.

22 And when the days of her purification according to the law of Moses were accomplished, they brought him to Jerusalem, to present him to the Lord;

23 (As it is written in the law of the Lord, Every male that openeth the womb shall be called holy to the Lord;)

24 And to offer a sacrifice according to that which is said in the law of the Lord, A pair of turtledoves, or two young pigeons.

25 And, behold, there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon; and the same man was just and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel: and the Holy Ghost was upon him.

26 And it was revealed unto him by the Holy Ghost, that he should not see death, before he had seen the Lord's Christ.

27 And he came by the Spirit into the temple: and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him after the custom of the law,

28 Then took he him up in his arms, and blessed God, and said,

29 Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, according to thy word:

30 For mine eyes have seen thy salvation,

31 Which thou hast prepared before the face of all people;

32 A light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel.

The Inn and the Shepherds - Luke 2

Good morning all. God is good all the time, all the time God is good.  TOO BLESSED TO BE STRESSED!!!

   Have you ever just stopped and read about the shepherds at the birth of Christ? Well, Mary and Joseph were headed to Bethlehem to be taxed, which was the rule of the day.  Mary was heavy laden with child.

      Once they arrived, yes, no place to reside. When Absalom, King David's son, sought to kill him and take power Chimham helped King David The inn, as is thought, was an inn built by Chimham, funded by King David in honor of Chimham, the son of Barzilai the Gileadite for helping him. (if you want to read more about this here is 1 reference I used, Ritmyer Archaeological Design. 

  Okay, you will get an idea of the inn if you read Ritmyer.  But, what about the birth of Christ.  It is a great story that often we all miss.  Here it is:

Luke 2: 6 And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered.

7 And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.

8 And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.

9 And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.

10 And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.

11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.

12 And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.

13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,

14 Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.

15 And it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us.

16 And they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger.

John 15:14-17 FRIEND

Good morning everyone!  God is good all the time, all the time God is good. TOO BLESSED TO BE STRESSED!!!

   If we just learn to follow what God wants us ALL to do, would not life be much simpler and enjoyable.  No more hatred or hate crimes, no more jealously, no more gossiping and backbiting.  Wowee! What a great world that would be.   Oh, wait, it can and will happen!!!!  When we go to heaven and live eternally with God.

   Well, until them we must remember that Jesus came not to condemn the world, but to save the world.  We all have a choice, some choose to follow Jesus, the risen savior; and, some choose to take their own path of destiny away from the LORD.

  John 15: 14 You are my friends if you do what I command.

  Okay, Jesus is speaking and calls us "friends"; so what does that mean?  What is a friend?  A friend shares intimacies and trust, whereas a master gives orders to his servants.  Jesus is a friend.

  John 15:15 I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you. 

  Jesus came to earth to reveal God and God's mind clearly to us. As God in the flesh, he made it possible for us to see what God is really like.

  John 15: 16 You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last—and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you. 

  When people mentor others, they are helping them to be better in the chosen field.  The greater the mentor, the more the student will learn.  So often, the brightest and most intelligent are the ones mentored to do great things.  HOWEVER, Jesus tells the disciples that 'THEY' did not choose HIM; but HE CHOSE THEM!!  Why? These men were fishermen, the brightest of them were Paul and Luke (who was not an apostle), otherwise they were just common, and probably uneducated Joes.

  As we go through the Bible we find these men denied Christ (Peter), sometimes they were thick-headed, slow to learn, but their biggest asset was they had GIVEN THEIR HEART TO GOD!!

  These disciples will do great things and they were empowered by Jesus and the Holy Spirit instilled in them.  Well, guess what?

   This is you as well.  You can do great things because the Holy Spirit lives within you.  Once you accepted Jesus Christ as your savior your temple (body) became a dwelling place of the Holy Spirit.  NOW, you need to go out and as like the prince or princess you are; doing great things for the kingdom of God.  Whether it be acts of kindness, praying for someone, or even healing someone; you can do it.  Now, look at verse 17 and it says it all.

  John 15:17 This is my command: Love each other.

John 15:13 No greater love than.........

Good morning everyone.  God is good all the time, all the time God is good.  TOO BLESSED TO BE STRESSED!  I ask your prayers for family and friends who are currently fighting off the cold and flu season.  It seems the colds just tend to linger on and on.  Thank  you.

  This is the time of the year when we celebrate the birth of Jesus.  Yes, there are some that will argue it is not his birth date, it is too commercialized, too much Santa Claus and gifts.  All these are most likely true, however, we need to keep in mind what we are celebrating.  This is about JESUS, and our arguments about when his birthday really is should not be part of the discussion.

   Yes, if you research the birth of Christ it was more likely to have been in the spring time, but we celebrate it now.  We celebrate Veterans Day the Monday closest to Nov. 11th, yet we celebrate. We celebrate MLK Jr. Day the 15 of Jan in 2018, the 21st in 2019, and so on, yet we hear not arguments about this.  SOOO, let us go into this season enjoying the fact that JESUS CHRIST did come and die for our sins and gave us a way to be forgiven and spend eternal life with God.

  John 15: 13 Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.

   Jesus Christ laid HIS life down for  (say your name).and Johnny.  So let us not bicker over the trivial things, but rejoice that we do have a risen savior.  The link below some of you have already seen, however, it is worth seeing again. Jeremiah 29:11-13

Good morning everyone!  God is good all the time, all the time God is good.  TOO BLESSED TO COMPLAIN!  We are all children of the King of Kings!  You are a prince or princess - carry your royalty with love and honor.

  You know, we go through the Bible, reading verses, taking them out as encouragement, not thinking about the other side of the situation.  Sometimes we give credit to the Bible for old sayings or cliches; for example - God helps those who help themselves, or give a man a fish and feed him for a day, teach a man to fish and feed him for a lifetime (old Chinese proverb by Lao Tzu). Yet we have heard it all our life and think it is scripture.  Now, let us look at some scripture from two different view points.

  Jeremiah 29: 11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. (Now this is from God)

  However, the evil one is working the exact reverse. He would say: "For I know the plans I (satan) have for you, plans to not prosper and to harm you, plans to take away your hope and make your future bleak.

   God's plans are to help us, encourage us, yet we have to remember that this really angers satan as he wants us all to fail.  Misery loves company, you have heard this, well satan and his demons thrive on having company.  So, how are we to avoid all this?

  Jeremiah 29: 12 Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. 13 You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.

  Rebuke satan in the name of Jesus and call on the LORD, go to your special place and pray to Jesus, God, the Holy Spirit and what??????  YES, God says "I will listen to you."

  We must seek God and when we do so with all our heart we will find him.  What we all need is a really good bathing, bathing and submersion  in the HOLY SPIRIT!  

   Today, when things look tough and the outlook bleak raise your hands to heaven, praise GOD, and rebuke satan and his demons in the name of Jesus.

  If you bathe in the Holy Spirit then you will hear God speaking to you and you can rebuke illness, depression, hate, and anything else and rejoice in the LOVE, HEALTH and PROSPERITY of being a prince or princess of the King of Kings.

  So, go forth with your royal self, rebuke satan in Jesus' name, and enjoy being royalty.  Love you all. (please take time to read Jeremiah 29 {click here}.

Quick, slow, slow - James 1:19

Good morning all. God is good all the time, all the time God is good.  TOO BLESSED TO BE STRESSED!!!!

   Thus far I have only had 1 suggestion on what to study in the upcoming weeks or months.  It is a great suggestion, and I am waiting for more great ideas. Please reply.

  Quick, slow, slow sounds like the reverse of the 2-step. However, it is not and we will get to this in the following devotional shared to me by my wife.  We both plan to do better in this category.  This is from Jeff Wells, Woodsedge Community Church
     James 1: 19 Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:

   

One short verse, three power-packed principles.  These three axioms are so simple that most people miss them.  Most people do the opposite – they are slow to listen, quick to speak, quick to get angry.  But not the wise man or woman!  Wise people are quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger.  Just like Christ was.   First, be quick to hear.  The first responsibility of love is listening.  People are starved to be heard and understood.  If we listen to people, really listen to people with our full attention, those people will feel so loved by us.  So simple, yet so powerful.   Paul Tournier wrote in his book, Escape From Loneliness:    It is impossible to overemphasize the immense need humans have to be really listened to, to be taken seriously, to be understood.  No one can develop freely in this world and find the full life without feeling understood by at least one person.   Listen to all the conversations of our world, between nations as well as those between couples.  They are for the most part dialogues of the deaf.   Second, be slow to speak.  If we are always talking, then we won’t be listening.  And that’s what people need from us, not our words, but our ears.  Besides, if we are hasty in our words, it is likely that we will say things we regret.   Alan McGinnis relates an anecdote on the difference between a talker and a listener:   A young woman was taken to dinner one night by William E. Gladstone, the distinguished British statesman, and the following night by Benjamin Disraeli, his equally distinguished opponent.  Asked later what impression these two celebrated men had made on her, she replied thoughtfully:  “When I left the dining room after sitting next to Mr. Gladstone, I thought he was the cleverest man in England.  But after sitting next to Mr. Disraeli, I thought I was the cleverest woman in England.”   Finally, be slow to anger.  Not quick-tempered.  Not irritable.  Not oversensitive.  But slow to anger.  Decide that you will not erupt with anger but you will give people the benefit of the doubt.  You ask questions to clarify what people mean.  You have a long fuse.   This is wisdom.  Quick to hear.  Slow to speak.  Slow to anger. Paul is straight forward when speaking about God - ACTS 17:22-28

Good morning everyone!  God is good all the time, all the time God is good.  too blessed to complain.

   Paul does not speak in politically correct fashion, nor does he spread opinions.  What Paul does is tell the truth.  These next verses I could paraphrase, but Paul is clear in his words.  Please read these words and then meditate on what the meaning is.  I did bold some parts that stood out to me. Here is ACTS 17:

22 Paul then stood up in the meeting of the Areopagus and said: “People of Athens! I see that in every way you are very religious. 23 For as I walked around and looked carefully at your objects of worship, I even found an altar with this inscription: to an unknown god. So you are ignorant of the very thing you worship—and this is what I am going to proclaim to you.

24 “The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by human hands. 25 And he is not served by human hands, as if he needed anything. Rather, he himself gives everyone life and breath and everything else. 26 From one man he made all the nations, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he marked out their appointed times in history and the boundaries of their lands. 27 God did this so that they would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from any one of us. 28 ‘For in him we live and move and have our being.’ As some of your own poets have said, ‘We are his offspring.’

No matter your past, there is hope--hope through Jesus Christ Eph 1:8b-14

Good morning all. God is good all the time, all the time God is good.  Christmas times is coming and many schedules get SO BUSY going about doing the "commercial" things in lieu of remembering the real meaning of Christmas.

 " Oh, we have to have gifts for everyone or it wouldn't be Christmas."  Ever hear something like that?  No, the fact is if it wasn't for Jesus there would be no Christmas.

   Oh, yes some will say it is not really Jesus' birthday.  Some will pick apart the Nativity scene (including me).  Yes, the wise men came on horses not camels and they were not there at the birth of Christ, but when Jesus was a toddler.  The point here is that we do celebrate our RISEN SAVIOUR - - JESUS CHRIST!!

   Our past does PENETRATE our present and future.  So often what we did or were exposed to in our past, we hang on to and let it affect us as we move forward in the present and future.

   We all have our own stories from the past but we must remember:  He chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. In love he predestined us for adoption as sons through Jesus Christ. (Ephesians 1:4–5)

  Then in the present. God's persistent love through the ages moves to redemption and forgiveness of sins in the present. Everything hinges on this. If we are left in our sin, then we are separated from God. Only Christ's surprising sacrifice for us can bring the holy God so close that he never leaves.

  In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespesses, according to the riches of his grace, which he lavished upon us, in all wisdom and insight making known to us the mystery of his will, according to his purpose. (Ephesians 1:7–9)

  All good stories end well, giving us hope for the future, without hope the future looks bleak.

  8b-With all wisdom and understanding, 9 he made known to us the mystery of his will according to his good pleasure, which he purposed in Christ, 10 to be put into effect when the times reach their fulfillment—to bring unity to all things in heaven and on earth under Christ.

11 In him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will, 12 in order that we, who were the first to put our hope in Christ, might be for the praise of his glory. 13 And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation.
