Good morning dear friends. God is good all the time, all the time God is good. TOO BLESSED TO COMPLAIN!
Well, hopefully you found out from yesterday that God wanted Hosea to
marry Gomer, one who would prostitute herself, so Gomer would be
experiencing the pain God feels when Israel prostitutes itself with
false gods. (and us as well)
Well, the marriage is consummated and they have a son, God says to name the son Jezreel (verse 4)
4 And the Lord
said unto him, Call his name Jezreel; for yet a little while, and I
will avenge the blood of Jezreel upon the house of Jehu, and will cause
to cease the kingdom of the house of Israel.
In verse 5 comes a defeat -
5 And it shall come to pass at that day, that I will break the bow of Israel, in the valley of Jezreel.
Notice what is spoken in 4 & 5 - avenge the blood of Jezreel upon
the house of Jehu. Elijah had predicted that the family of Israel's
King Ahab would be destroyed because of their wickedness (1 Kings 21:20-22).
But, Jehu was too zealous in carrying out God's command and his dynasty
would also be punished where? In the Jezreel Valley, the place where
he massacred Ahab's family (2 Kings 10:1-11). .
Well, Gomer is pregnant again and this time with a girl. The LORD told
Hosea to name her Lo-ruhamah - which means Not-Loved. The LORD told
Hosea HE would not longer show love to the people of Israel or forgive
them. BUT, he would show love to the people of Judah. Verse
7 But I will have mercy upon the house of Judah, and will save them by the Lord their God, and will not save them by bow, nor by sword, nor by battle, by horses, nor by horsemen.
Now let's move on to verses 8-9. A second son is born, we do not know
if this is Hosea's or not, but check out the text and what God says.
8 Now when she had weaned Loruhamah, she conceived, and bare a son.
9 Then said God, Call his name Loammi: for ye are not my people, and I will not be your God.
Okay we have Lo-ruhamah which means not loved. Now, we have Loammi which means not my people. Could this also indicate the second boy child is not Hoseas? God is showing HIS reaction to unfaithfulness. Could God be referring to the covenant in Jeremiah 7:23? 23 But this thing commanded I them, saying, Obey my voice, and I will be your God, and ye shall be my people: and walk ye in all the ways that I have commanded you, that it may be well unto you.
Maybe the warnings in Deuteronomy 28:15-68 were coming true. Israel was abandoning God and in turn, HE was leaving them alone and without HIS blessings. (click on the link and you can listen to the scripture in Deut 28:15-68).
However, God's commitment remains unchanged as you read in verse 10. This is a promise of a future reuniting the covenant made with Moses in Deuteronomy 30:1-10.
Hosea 1:11 is a prediction of the day when all the people of God will be united under Christ. 11 Then shall the children of Judah and the children of Israel be gathered together, and appoint themselves one head, and they shall come up out of the land: for great shall be the day of Jezreel.
God is showing Hosea through his life how Israel has treated God. We, too, should be alert and take lessons from this. How often do we prostitute ourselves with false gods? A car, house, money, social position, and on and on. We need to take heed of this lesson in Hosea. Tomorrow we will begin chapter 2. Let me know your feelings thus far about Hosea. Love you all.

p.s. had a request to do Revelations. I am gathering books
to do so,, but feel quite inapt at this time. Later we will.
