Sometimes when we do "good" it comes back and bites us. We have seen this under the bridge. We will help individuals out of their circumstances and then they will be free for such a short period of time and then right back to same or similar circumstances.
Paul and Silas experienced this. They did what they should have done, then it came back and bit them in the end. Let's look here at this in Acts 16: 16 Once when we were going to the place of prayer, we were met by a female slave who had a spirit by which she predicted the future. She earned a great deal of money for her owners by fortune-telling. 17 She followed Paul and the rest of us, shouting, “These men are servants of the Most High God, who are telling you the way to be saved.” 18 She kept this up for many days. Finally Paul became so annoyed that he turned around and said to the spirit, “In the name of Jesus Christ I command you to come out of her!” At that moment the spirit left her.
Now, what harm is there allowing this lady to follow them. Well, first she was a slave who earned money for her owners. And how did she do this? Be fortune telling the future. She is telling everyone who can hear these men are servants of God. Paul and Silas know that there is an unclean spirit residing in her. Paul becomes irritated and casts the spirit out. Yea! But...................
19 When her owners realized that their hope of making money was gone, they seized Paul and Silas and draggedthem into the marketplace to face the authorities. 20 They brought them before the magistrates and said, “These men are Jews, and are throwing our city into an uproar 21 by advocating customs unlawful for us Romans to accept or practice.”
Okay, these guys are hacked off because now they have lost there revenue, their income, their source of taking advantage of people. They are now doing what a lot of people in the USA are doing today - inciting an uproar, a riot. So what happens. Awww........tomorrow, tomorrow, is only a day away.
Love you all.
In Christ's Love and Grace
